A mild front pushed through Florida this week causing major wind, rain storms and barometric fluctuations. The front caused a very hot bite at the beginning of the week to cool off a bit mid week. The good news for this weekend is that for most of Florida the weather is looking great to get out on the water.
Florida is currently at the end of its spring fishing pattern and the beginning of its summer pattern.
With the summer pattern taking over it is important to be aware of the sun and the heat. When fishing be sure to use sunscreen and sunglasses. Staying hydrated is vitally important, so have some water or sports drinks with you.
Weekend Florida Shore Fishing Tip:
The Spanish Mackerel Run is VERY hot right now in many parts of Florida. The Skyway Fishing Pier in Tampa is reporting frequent catches, and similar reports span most of the state. Spanish Mackerel like flashy fast moving lures. A Gotcha Plug is always effective when fishing for Macks.
Any live bait fish that is size appropriate and lively will work well. A jumbo live shrimp hung under a popping cork will also work when the fish are running. Be aware Spanish Mackerel have very sharp teeth, so either use a strong Fluorocarbon leader or light wire.
Now get out there and catch some fish! Have a great weekend!
