One of the most popular, and most abundant fish to be found along Florida’s Surf is the Whiting, and they are easy to find right now! The spring has started to warm the waters around the coast, but they are still cool enough to find plenty of whiting action.
Reports are coming in from Jacksonville all the way down to Miami and all through out the Gulf coast of multiple catches of whiting. One angler near Sebastian inlet reported catching 16 whiting within 2 hours! The average catch seems to be around 12″ and ranges from smaller than that up to about 16″.
There are no limits on size or numbers of whiting you are allowed to keep. Being an unregulated fish in Florida, the only rule you must follow is to keep less than 100lbs.
The most successful baits have been fresh pealed shrimp and sand fleas.
