Spring is the perfect time of year to be fishing from Florida’s Shores. The water is starting to warm back up causing fish to move into shallower waters feed more aggressively. Perfectly timed with this, is Spring Break for the kids.
Here are a few tips for taking your kids fishing for the first time:
- BE PATIENT
- Target easy to catch fish (like panfish and what sports anglers call trash fish)
- Be prepared to leave early, you don’t want to force them to stay long after they are bored. This will quickly turn the hobby into a task.
- BE PATIENT
- Make sure to provide gear that is appropriate for the child
- If the fishing is slow, find ways to occupy them and make the trip fun
- BE PATIENT
- A good place to start is surf fishing. Kids generally love the beach, so they can have fun there, even if the fishing is slow
