The Spotted Sea Trout is one of Florida’s more popular inshore game fish. With flashy, and splashy fights and a very good meat the Trout is on the top of the list for many anglers.
Species Name | Cynoscion nebulosus
Size | Averages 1-2bs, common at 5lbs but can reach 15+
Food Value | Very good when in the slot. Larger fish are often full of worms and the meat is less firm.
Fight | A fun, flashy fight. Trout spend a lot of time on the top of the water splashing. They are aggressive, but only the larger trout can pull off any line on a run.
Equipment | Trout are not the strongest fish in the ocean so spinning and baitcasting gear will be more than enough to land this fish. They are spunky, so they are quite fun on lighter gear with line less than 10 pound test.
Baits | Live shrimp is the best bait for trout, but finger mullet are a close second. They are aggressive towards most smaller bait fish and are also aggressive towards many lures.
Limits | Slot: 15″-20″ Bag Limit: 4 or 5 (Depends on region) |
