Carl (the shark slayer) and I decided to take advantage of both being done with work early and turn it into a night fishing trip. We gathered our gear, a few lanterns and flash lights and headed to a private dock on the Intercostals Water Way near Ponce Inlet.
We arrived at 5:30 with a few dozen live shrimp, frozen squid and frozen clams. After setting up the lights and lanterns before the sun went down we got our lines wet.
I was the first to pull in a fish and it was a nice size whiting, followed quickly by another. Carl got into the action pulling a whiting over the rail.
At about 7:45 the clicker in my Ambassador started to sing. I picked it up, engaged the reel and felt a VERY large tug. Then, NOTHING. I knew what ever it was broke me off!
We continued to catch fish after fish until about 8pm when the tide was ripping. After the tide slowed down things picked right back up until slack tide. Slack tide produced no fish at all. As the tide started to turn and head back out Carl hooked into something fairly large, but it cut through his leader like it was butter. After that it was fairly late and the only thing we were pulling in was catfish so we decided to call it a night at about midnight.
